The National Guard delivered for the nation throughout April, supporting homeland response, strengthening warfighting capability, and reinforcing partnerships with allies and partner nations worldwide. Guard members supported NASA Artemis II with contingency search and rescue coverage, demonstrated lethality and tactical proficiency during Infantry Week 2026 at Fort Benning, and marked a historic milestone with the activation of Utah’s first light infantry battalion in more than a century. Guard members also supported disaster response operations in Guam following Typhoon Sinlaku and trained alongside domestic and international partners to enhance emergency response and interoperability. Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery Regiment, Massachusetts Army National Guard, and Kenya Defence Force, conduct multiple days of training at, Laresoro, Kenya, Feb. 28 - March 11, 2026. During the training, field artillerymen cover multiple tables of fire including Table VI certification which validated artillery crews’ ability to safely and accurately execute fire missions under live-fire conditions, ensuring technical proficiency and readiness before advancing to the combined arms live fire training exercise. Pennsylvania Army National Guard Soldiers participated in the Lithuanian Land Forces Best Infantry Squad Competition in Rukla, Lithuania, March 4–5, 2026, taking second place in the foreign squad category as they competed alongside NATO allies and partners. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. James Rudershausen, with the Pennsylvania Army Guard squad that competed, shares how the multi-national event strengthened interoperability and readiness. Over 450 Soldiers and Airmen trained, survived, and performed in near-arctic weather conditions during Northern Strike 26-1 across Northern Michigan’s National All-Domain Warfighting Center, Jan. 26-29. Exercise Northern Strike 26-1 is a Joint National Training Capability accredited, Army-sponsored, National Guard Bureau program. The exercise is tailorable, scalable, and cost-effective for readiness. On any given day in 2025, roughly 13,000 National Guard members were on duty protecting our homeland, responding to natural disasters, conducting security operations, completing search and rescue missions, and assisting civil authorities. When America needed them the most, Guard Soldiers and Airmen left their homes and families at a moment’s notice, supporting local, state, and federal partners across the homeland.
