Botswana: Hawaii National Guard provides helicopters to support Southern Accord 12 in Botswana

Soldiers of Hawaii Army National Guard's Bravo Company, 1-171st Aviation Regiment, based at Wheeler Army Airfield in Wahiawa, Hawaii, assemble the last of four Chinooks they transported to Botswana in support of Southern Accord 12. SA 12 brings together U.S. military personnel with their Botswana Defense Force counterparts to enhance military capabilities and interoperability.

Fabian Alban, Troop A, 3rd Squadron, 124th Cavalry Regiment, and a Tanzania People's Defense Force soldier exchange best practices at a crew-serve weapons seminar held July 2 to 13, 2012. The Texas National Guard members conducted various military-to-military training sessions in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, whose mission is to build partnerships with nations in East Africa.

Soldiers from C Company, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment, land in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter during a training flight on Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan. Soldiers from the unit recently transported a critically wounded Marine who had live rocket propelled grenade round embedded in his leg. Without the quick thinking of the air crew, the Marine would not have survived.

The unit was completing a 400-mile convoy from Bagram Air Field to Forward Operating Base Warrior and back as security for more than a dozen Afghan-owned cargo trucks, taking one of Afghanistan's most dangerous roads - Highway 1.

The training, facilitated by the South Dakota Army National Guard's 451st Engineer Detachment firefighters, provided hands on training of the tools and techniques to safely remove a victim from a vehicle accident. International Security Assistance Force Regional Command North supports Afghan National Security Forces in close coordination and collaboration in providing security and disrupting insurgent activities in order to protect the Afghan population.
