Firefighting missions boost Wyoming Air Guard pilot's passion for flying

Airline pilot Ryan Scofield, pictured here in his cockpit, April 28, 2017, has flown for a commercial airline carrier for 12 years. When he's not in an Airbus A320, he’s piloting a C-130H Hercules aircraft for the Wyoming Air National Guard's 187th Airlift Squadron based in Cheyenne.

Missouri man serves childhood community when flooding strikes

First Lt. Kacey Proctor, the officer in charge of the Missouri Army National Guard’s 1138th Engineer Company out of Farmington, Missouri, volunteered for state emergency duty when flood waters threatened his childhood home in Poplar Bluff.

New York Army Guard NCO competes in Best Ranger contest

Sgt. 1st  Class Sean Smith, a member of the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry of the New York Army National Guard negotiates the Darby Queen obstacle course during the 34th annual David E. Grange Jr. Best Ranger Competition at Ft. Benning, Ga., April 9, 2017.  Smith was one of six National Guard Soldiers to complete the grueling 62-hour event.

Citizen-Warrior of the month: Washington Soldier uses combat medic training as sheriff's deputy

Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergio Sanchez also serves as a combat medic in the Washington Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 146th Field Artillery Regiment. His military skills as a medic gives him an extra skill set and unique qualifications, said his sheriff’s department supervisor.
