Utah National Guard assisting state after damaging windstorms

By Utah National Guard report Utah National Guard

DRAPER, Utah - The Utah National Guard continues today to assist the state with clean-up efforts in multiple cities after high windstorms took out power lines, tore down trees, blew over semi-trailers and caused extensive damage to properties throughout Davis County.

The Utah National Guard was activated last week after the first high-windstorm, and Governor Gary Hebert said he wants to keep the National Guard and other agencies working throughout the day. He said he will reassess the situation later today.

During windstorm operations earlier this week the about 200 Utah National Guard members, using about 70 pieces of heavy equipment, transported more than 45 loads of debris to landfills.

Units involved in these clean-up efforts were the 1457th Engineer Battalion, 489th Brigade Support Battalion, 204th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, 115th Maintenance Company, 151st Air Refueling Wing and their tenant units.

Utah National Guard Soldiers and Airmen worked at the city staging areas to consolidate green and non-green waste before taking loads to the landfill.

One of the Utah National Guard's primary missions is to provide support to state authorities during times of natural disasters when tasked to do so by the governor and operates under the direction of the local municipalities.
