ARLINGTON, Va. - Several National Guardmembers and units from across the states are walking away with individual and unit awards from the 2010 Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Competition.

"The past year has been an exciting and challenging one for the National Guard," said Army Lt. Col. Eric Maxon, acting director of the National Guard Bureau's Office of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications.

"Whether we responded to natural disasters, were deployed along our Southern border or supported our numerous overseas contingency and partnership programs, our PA warriors were there to capture and showcase their unique stories."

The Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware competition is an annual competition featuring the top civilian and military journalists from all three Army components.

Competition winners were announced earlier this week, and include winners from the following National Guard states in the community relation's categories: Colorado, Illinois and Missouri.

In the print journalism categories, winners are from the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon and South Carolina.

In the broadcast journalism categories, the following states had awardees: Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Ohio and Virginia.

Maxon said, "The fact that our Army National Guard public affairs professionals placed in more than half of the categories in the contest shows that our National Guard soldiers have the skills and expertise needed to provide top-notch public affairs support during any contingency or event, anywhere in the world."

The winners also included Guardmembers who work at the National Guard Bureau's Office of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications.

The Army has posted a complete list of winners online.
