Montana ANG repeats as best in food service

By Maj. Rick Anderson Montana National Guard

GREAT FALLS, Mont., - For the second time in the last four years, the Montana Air National Guard Sustainment Services Flight was presented with the Air National Guard Senior Master Sergeant Kenneth W. Disney Food Service Excellence Award during the 2010 Air Force John L. Hennessy Trophy presentation in Chicago May 21.

“Just what we always knew, that we are the best of the best,” said Tech. Sgt. Troy Anderson when he heard the results of the evaluation. “This is what we do, everyday and all the time not just when the evaluation team is around.”

“The most difficult part of the inspection was having people deployed, not knowing when they would return and many new Airmen in the flight,” said Chief Master Sgt. Marty Leonard, chief of the 120th Fighter Wing Sustainment Services Flight. “However, we felt very confident in the ability and professionalism of our Airmen to get the job done. I never doubted them.”

The Disney Award Program was established to promote excellence in guest service and meal quality, inspire high morale, motivation, mission support, and a professional image through pride and spirited competition.

Sponsoring associations of the award include the National Restaurant Association, the Society for Food Service Management, the International Food Service Executives and the Culinary Institute of America.

Senior Master Sgt. Kenneth Wayne Disney served as the superintendent at McGhee Tyson Air Base in Knoxville, Tenn., for more than 20 years. He was highly regarded by fellow Airmen for his excellent managerial skills and commitment to providing outstanding food services.

The Montana unit last earned the award in 2006.
