ARLINGTON, Va., - The National Guard Bureau and the Army National Guard completed the Non-Department of Defense Owned, Non-Operational Defense Site Inventory in December 2009.
Release of the inventory results to the public is slated for this month via the Defense Environmental Network Information Exchange (DENIX) at https://www.denix.osd.mil.
The NDNODS inventory identifies former training areas and ranges that were used by the state Army Guard (other than on DOD-owned or leased property) that are known or suspected to have releases of unexploded ordnance, discarded military munitions or munitions constituents.
The sites are no longer being used for training by the Army Guard. This inventory was required in accordance with Title 10 U.S. Code 2710.
A total of 395 sites in 50 states and territories were identified in the inventory. No sites were identified in Florida, New Hampshire, Guam and the District of Columbia. These sites include the federal, state, county and local government, commercial and private property.
Executive summaries from the reports for all 54 states, territories, and the district will be posted on DENIX.
Per requirements under Title 10 U.S. Code 2701, response actions for the sites will be addressed as part of the DoD's Military Munitions Response Program.
Planning is currently underway to initiate and complete site inspections over the next two years to determine if releases have occurred at these sites.
