New one-minute video report launches March 1

By Army Sgt. 1st Class Jon Soucy National Guard Bureau

ARLINGTON, Va., - A new source of information for news about the National Guard is scheduled to debut March 1.

The "Minuteman Report" is a roughly one-minute segment that will highlight news, current events and items of significance within the National Guard, said Guard officials.

"It's significant, because it is a continuation of our ongoing effort to more effectively communicate what the National Guard is doing both at home and abroad," said Jack Harrison, director of public affairs at the National Guard Bureau.

The program, which is to be featured on the Pentagon Channel, Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS), the National Guard Web site, and possibly other outlets throughout the Department of Defense, is produced as a team effort between the NGB public affairs office and the broadcasting staff of the Air National Guard's Training and Education Center at McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base in Knoxville, Tenn.

"I am excited about this collaborative effort with the TEC-TV folks down in Knoxville," said Harrison. "This is a talented group of people, who have been doing tremendous work, and I am glad we are working together on this new project."

The "Minuteman Report" is part of a larger transformation of the telling of the Guard story. The past 18 months have seen a greater online presence and use of social media for the Guard, said Harrison, who added that during that time the National Guard's flagship publication, the "On Guard," has also been revamped into an all-electronic format.

The establishment of the "Minuteman Report" may lead to other online or electronic avenues to share the stories of Guard Soldiers and Airmen, Harrison said.

"The 'Minuteman Report' could be the birth of something bigger," he said. "What's the next step? A daily podcast? Why not? Technology is the limit, and we're just scratching the surface of how we get our story out."
