FARGO, N.D., - The water purification mission to aid relief efforts in Haiti has been canceled for the 119th Wing of the North Dakota Air National Guard.

Eleven Civil Engineer Airmen received notification for the mission on Jan. 19. The Airmen, who were prepared to deploy on the four-month mission within hours after receiving the notification, have been awaiting air transport to Haiti since their notification. The 119th Wing was also prepared to transport three reverse osmosis water purification units for the mission.

"Our Airmen were excited and ready to do their part in this mission," said Maj. John Gibbs, 119th Wing Civil Engineer Squadron. "We stand ready, if it's determined that they need us at a later date, we will answer the call."

Five of the eleven Airmen remain on orders and ready to deploy if needed.

At this time, no other Airmen or Soldiers within the North Dakota National Guard have been notified to support the relief efforts in Haiti.
