CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea - Army Lt. Gen. William Ingram Jr., the director of the Army National Guard, visited here March 6.
During his time here, Ingram received both an aerial and windshield tour of the installation, including getting a look at the construction of future housing units, and was hosted by U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys commander, Col. Joseph P. Moore.
He also met with North Dakota Army National Guard member Maj. Gen. Dennis Jacobson, the deputy chief of staff for re-stationing with United States Forces Korea.
Next, it was on to the Super Gym to receive a brief from Moore on the Humphreys transformation. The brief included information on the relocation of U.S. Forces on Camp Humphreys, the master plan execution, family housing, land development, renovation and construction.
"The host nation granted us with new lands for exclusive U.S. use," Moore said. "All families will be totally accounted for, with facilities such as schools, hospitals and housing."
At the new Army family housing construction area, Ingram was guided by David M. Talbot, a resident engineer at the Family Housing Resident office and the U.S. Corps of Engineers Far East District. Talbot provided a tour of model apartments that Army family members will reside in.
"The tour was to get a feel of what 2,400 acres of new land is really like, because some people have hard time picturing it," Moore said. "These new apartments will provide Soldiers with cooking facilities and a new high school that is being built will be equipped with fine facilities, such as a football field and a cafeteria."
"It will be a heavy mission to provide bus service for all new in-processing Soldiers with the expansion, but we are up to the challenge," he continued.
Ingram concluded his visit by having lunch at the 501st Military Intelligence Brigade "Red Dragon" Dining Facility.
