CNGB meets with DoD "logistics champions" at USTRANSCOM

By Lt. Col. Cliff Mirabella U.S. Transportation Command Public Affairs

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. - Gen. Craig McKinley, chief of the National Guard Bureau, several National Guard Adjutants General and representatives from the other reserve components recently met here to synchronize their strategic alignment with U.S. Transportation Command.

He was accompanied by Air Force Lt. Gen. Harry Wyatt, director of the Air National Guard and Army Maj. Gen. Mike Sumrall, assistant to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff for National Guard Matters, at USTRANSCOM's annual Reserve Component Chiefs and Adjutants General Conference.

The theme of the year's conference, "Total Force, Total Partnership," reflects the personal sentiments of USTRANSCOM commander Gen. Duncan J. McNabb.

"USTRANSCOM is a daily, continuous example of the Total Force Team," he said. "That means this group shares in every victory, and shoulders every challenge along with the rest of the team - the Active Duty, civilians and commercial partners."

USTRANSCOM, one of 10 joint combatant commands, is manned by personnel from all the services and is responsible for creating and implementing world-class global deployment and distribution solutions for the Department of Defense; providing transportation, sustainment, fuel and distribution for the nation's warfighters.

During an average day, this includes conducting 2298 domestic freight shipments, 500 container shipments, 287 airlift air missions, 91 air refueling missions with 35 ships, loading, unloading or underway and operating in 75 percent of the world's countries.

Guard and Reserve personnel make up more than 55 percent of USTRANSCOM's workforce. Without the efforts of these Citizen-Soldiers, -Airmen, -Sailors, -Marines and -Coast Guardsmen, the command could not move the cargo, troops, supplies and sustainment the nation needs

"You are all part of a championship team." McNabb told his audience. "There is no question about who the Department of Defense's logistics champions are!"

In addition to McNabb, participants heard from: Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, Commander of U.S. Northern Command; Air Force Gen. Arthur J. Lichte, Commander of Air Mobility Command, one of USTRANSCOM's three component commands; and Army Maj. Gen. James L. Hodge, commander of Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, another USTRANSCOM component command).
