Army Guard joins WWE for tag team event

By Staff Sgt. S. Patrick McCollum National Guard Bureau

ARLINGTON, Va. - The pile-driving, high flying fun of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will join with the Army National Guard in a "tag team" event for the ages.

The Army National Guard has announced that it will be the presenting sponsor of Wrestlemania Axxess, a four-day event pregaming Wrestlemania 25 held April 2-6 at the Reliant Center in Houston Texas, and Wrestlemania 25 itself.

Senior Guardmembers are excited to tap into the WWE's 15 million fans to build interest in the National Guard and meet recruiting goals for 2009.

"We are extremely thrilled to work with WWE and tap into the millions of loyal and passionate fans," said Lt. Col. Joseph Day, chief of Army National Guard Marketing and Advertising. "This is a great opportunity for our recruitment and activation outreach."

In addition to the chance to meet their favorite WWE SuperStar, prospective recruits will be able to participate in a number of events in the "Combat Zone."

The events will include a "Show us your Guns" competition, in which participants can win T-shirts, hats, and signed merchandise by submitting a photo of themselves flexing, as well as an "Ultimate Warrior" challenge including virtual shooting ranges and obstacle courses in which daily winners will be announced.
