Guam National Guard Respond to Cabras Island Explosion - Exercise Only

By Press Release

Guam Governor, the Honorable Felix P. Camacho, has been advised that President George W. Bush has issued a Presidential Disaster Declaration for Guam. Dept of Homeland Security and Guam Fire Department confirmed a "˜dirty bomb' exploded near Cabras Power Plant earlier today.

As the first military responders, members of the Guam National Guard's 94th CST-WMD were called upon by Gov. Camacho to assist the local first responders.

Members of the CST-WMD are on site conducting an initial joint entry at the incident site with members of the Guam Fire Department to asses the damage.

The 93rd CST-WMD from Hawaii is enroute to augment the 94th CST-WMD personnel.

Maj. Gen. Donald J. Goldhorn said, "The Guam National Guard is here to support the initiatives outlined by our commander-in-chief. The Guard will assist the civil authorities to help save lives and restore and maintain civil order," he said. The 94th CST-WMD constantly trains with the first responders here, including the Guam Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense, added the general.
