Colorado Guard joins fight against East Troublesome wildfire

By Colorado National Guard

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Gov. Jared Polis activated the Colorado National Guard to assist the State Emergency Operations Center and the incident commander during the East Troublesome Fire near Grand Lake.

The SEOC requested 38 CONG Soldiers to establish 24/7 traffic control points to assist the Grand County Sheriff’s Office to restrict unauthorized access to the East Troublesome Fire area of operations.

The SEOC also requested six CONG members to support the Grand County Office of Emergency Management for fire support.

Additional Guard members are assisting from Joint Task Force-Centennial Headquarters in Centennial.

This is the second activation of the CONG for wildfire response this year.

“I’m proud of the compassion and commitment that our National Guard men and women have demonstrated throughout our state’s historic COVID and wildfire responses,” said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Laura Clellan, the adjutant general of Colorado. “We have the capabilities, capacity and connections to respond wherever or however our state needs us.”
