Louisiana National Guard continues Hurricane Laura response

BATON ROUGE, La. – More than 6,200 members of the Louisiana National Guard are supporting the response to Hurricane Laura, providing logistical support, distributing supplies and clearing roads and bridges.

The LANG is prepared to send additional Soldiers and Airmen to support civil authorities safeguarding the population, saving lives and protecting critical infrastructure.

The LANG has approximately 27 helicopters available, 236 high-water vehicles and 76 boats staged in south, west and north Louisiana providing health and welfare checks.

Since Hurricane Laura made landfall in southwest Louisiana Aug. 28, members of the Louisiana National Guard have helped evacuate more than 2,000 people and 20 pets from Calcasieu Parish.

The LANG has distributed 70,000 liters of water, 39,000 military rations, or meals ready to eat, and 6,200 tarps to the people of Louisiana.

The LANG also has 11 engineer assessment teams, seven engineer work teams and 11 other teams working to remove debris and clear roads.
