U.S. Army culinary specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 181st Brigade Support Element, 81st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Washington National Guard, competes in the Philip A. Connelly Competition, Seattle, Wash., Feb. 2, 2024. The Philip A. Connelly Awards Program aims to achieve the best quality food service to supported soldiers by improving the professionalism of food service personnel, providing recognition for excellence in the preparation and serving of food in Army troop dining facilities and during field kitchen operations. The competition tests culinary specialists in all fields, both military and civilian. HHC is being evaluated on all aspects of their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), 92G Culinary Specialist. The food prep team must pass this evaluation in order to compete in the regional competition. The evaluators are looking for how well the food prep team can set up the kitchen as well as food safety practices and how consistent the meal is kept all throughout the entire serving time, beginning to end.
