What is Go SLO?

U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Caleb Johnson, executive officer and air defense control officer with Marine Air Control Squadron 2 (MACS-2) operating under tactical control of Task Force 61/2, shares his role as a weapons director working in a Tactical Air Operations Center (TOAC) and the functions MACS-2 provides to higher, joint, and NATO forces, while participating in exercise Formidable Shield 23 in Andoya, Norway on May 10, 2023. MACS-2 provides ground based, air task-oriented radar picture and command and control function in support of air to air, surface to air, and surface to surface fires. Formidable Shield is a biennial, integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) exercise involving a series of live-fire events against subsonic, supersonic, and ballistic targets, incorporating multiple Allied ships, aircraft, and ground forces working across battle spaces to deliver effects.
