U.S. Army Central
Dec. 19, 2016 | 2:12
DESCRIPTION: BROLL. US Army Central Commanding General Michael Garrett officially welcomed the intermediate division headquarters during a ceremony held at Camp Air-if-john in Kuwait.
Nearly 450 National Guardsmen from Maryland and Virginia who make up the 29th will provide oversight to some 18,000 troops, supporting Operation Spartan Shield, Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
The commanding general for the 29th, Major General Blake Ortner says his team is ready to get the job done, once again demonstrating that for the U.S. Army, there is only one Total Force.

SUGGESTED LEAD: It was an historic day this morning for the Virginia based 29th Infantry Division out of Fort Belvoir, as the command took charge in supporting several military operations throughout the Middle East.

SUGGESTED TAG: This is the largest number of troops the 29th Infantry Division has taken command of since the end of World War II.
