S.C. Guard Engineers Work To Remove Sand On Edisto Island
108th Public Affairs Detachment
Oct. 11, 2016 | 2:23
South Carolina Army National Guard engineers on Edisto Island have been working non-stop clearing 3 to 4 foot of sand on Palmetto Boulevard to clear the way for fire, EMS and other emergency personnel in order for residents to safely return home. Hurricane Matthew peaked as a Category 4 hurricane in the Caribbean and passed over the southeastern U.S., including the S.C. coast. Approximately 2,800 S.C. National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have been activated since Oct. 4, 2016, to support state and county emergency management agencies and local first responders after Governor Nikki Haley declared a State of Emergency.
