Whitehead named next top enlisted National Guard leader

Gen. Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, selected Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Tony L. Whitehead to serve as the senior enlisted advisor.

Whitehead will advise Hokanson on matters affecting the 350,000 enlisted citizen-soldiers and -airmen of the Army and Air National Guard.

“Chief Master Sergeant Whitehead brings with him tremendous leadership experience earned during a remarkable career in the Air Force and Air National Guard,” said Hokanson. “His energy and experience will be invaluable in taking care of our outstanding National Guard soldiers and airmen as they meet today's unprecedented challenges at home and abroad.”

Whitehead recently completed a successful tour as both the command chief master sergeant for both the Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command and 1st Air Force. Prior to this assignment, he served as the command chief master sergeant of the Puerto Rico ANG.

Whitehead entered the Air Force in December 1982 and joined the Florida ANG in April 1994. He has held enlisted leadership positions at all levels in the security specialist and security forces career fields. He was activated September 11, 2001 as the 125th Fighter Wing first sergeant with primary responsibility over members of the Mission Support Group and all activated airmen.
