Pennsylvania Guard Conducts Medical Cold-Load Training in Africa

Combat medics from the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team who are deployed to the Horn of Africa conduct joint medical evacuation cold-load training aboard a KC-130J aircraft at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, March 5, 2024. The training ensures interoperability with key U.S. military assets to expedite patient transfers to and from an aircraft in the event lifesaving measures and medical evacuation are requested.

NY Guard’s 69th Infantry Carries Poet’s Crucifix to Africa

New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. Shawn Tabankin, the commander of the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry, holds the "Kilmer Cross" at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, where the battalion is stationed while on duty at locations in the Horn of Africa. The crucifix was the property of poet Joyce Kilmer, who died while serving in the 69th Infantry in World War I.
