U.S. Army Sgt. "This is War: Filmmaker Reflects 20 Years After Historic ORNG Deployment"

In 2007, filmmaker Gary Mortensen's documentary "This is War" captured the harrowing experiences of an Oregon National Guard unit deployed to Iraq, where they faced intense combat. As the 20th anniversary of the 2004 deployment approaches, it's a time to reflect on the courage and sacrifices of these soldiers, and their successes and struggles since then. Mortensen's film provides an intimate look at the challenges faced by the "Grim Reapers" battalion, shedding light on the sacrifices made by National Guard members who leave behind their families and jobs to serve. The documentary serves as a tribute to the resilience and dedication of those who answered the call to duty in the face of adversity. This April 7, 2024, interview with Mortensen took place at Stoller Family Estate, where he is the company's president. Watch the 2007 documentary here: https://vimeo.com/956192350
