131st Bomb Wing Family Day
131st Bomb Wing
Sept. 2, 2017 | 2:57
131st Bomb Wing Family Day held at both Whitman AFB and Jefferson Barracks Air National Guard Base.

Hundreds of Missouri Air National Guard members and their family members gathered at both Air National Guard Base Jefferson Barracks and Whitman Air Force Base to celebrate Family Day over September Drill.

The day kicked off with a resiliency seminar for spouses. Representatives from a multitude of military resources created an atmosphere where spouses could meet key figures and have their questions answered. Children of members were invited for breakfast and crafts so parents could focus on the seminar.

Families enjoyed a picnic lunch and a variety of family-friendly activities. Jefferson Barrackes featured a visit by Chief, an Anhesuser Busch Clydesdale and the 501st Legion, which is a group of Star Wars enthusiast who share their passions at special charity and family events. At Whitman Air Force Base children were able to participate in a mock deployment and get their hands on real pilot flight gear.

The day's events also featured corn hole, children's games, live music and pony rides.

Missouri Air National Guardsmen have a unique mission in which they serve both a state and federal mission. Airmen can be called up at a moments notice to support State Emergency Duty or overseas missions. Without a strong support system it would be very hard for Missouri Air National Guardsmen to get the mission done. Celebrating our members and their support group is what family day is all about.
