Yama Sakura 75 - Opening Ceremony
Media Center - Japan
Dec. 9, 2018 | 6:49
Hundreds of U.S. Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) service members gathered Dec. 9, 2018 at Camp Higashi-Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan, to kick off the bilateral Japanese and U.S. opening ceremony for the Japan-based exercise Yama Sakura 75.
Lt. Gen. Gary J. Volesky, the commander of I Corps and JGSDF Lt. Gen. Masato Toura, Northern Army commanding general, spoke to the exercise participants about strengthening trust while enhancing their understanding of war fighting capabilities between both countries.
Yama Sakura 75 is set to run until Dec. 16 and will train U.S. and JGSDF capabilities to defend Japan during joint unified land operations.
