VP-47 Fires Harpoon, USS Olympia Launches Torpedo During RIMPAC SINKEX
Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet
July 20, 2018 | 0:41
180720-N-KG618-1172 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 20, 2018) — Footage of a P-8A Poseidon, assigned to the "Golden Swordsmen" of Patrol Squadron 47, firing an AGM-84 Harpoon missile, and fast-attack submarine USS Olympia (SSN 717) launching a torpedo at decommissioned ex-USS Racine (LST-1191) as a part of a sinking exercise July 12 off the coast of Hawaii during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2018 is the 26th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S. Navy video by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Kevin A. Flinn and Naval Aircrewman (Operator) 2nd Class Tyler Willsey/Released)
