Detonation: savings (Interviews)
364th Expeditionary Sustainment Command
March 12, 2012 | 3:57
Interviews with soldiers from the 788th Ordnance Co. (EOD) preparing code “H” ammunition and other ordnance for a controlled detonation outside Camp Buehring in Kuwait. Disposal of small lots of unusable ammunition saves the government the cost of refurbishing and tracking these munitions back through the supply system. Destroying these munitions and unexploded ordnance also denies enemies the potential to turn them into weapons. 1st Lt. Jacob Walsh, from Bethlehem, Penn., officer-in-charge of the 788th OD. Co. (EOD), at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. 00;00;05;00 Cost-efficient to destroy vs. repack 00;00;16;21 Projected savings of $37 Million dollars since September 16, 2011 Staff Sgt. James Van Elsacker from Waubay, SD, an EOD technician with the 788th OD. Co. (EOD), at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. 00;02;00;23 Single demilitarization facility in Kuwait 00;02;07;07 Code “H” ammo description 00;02;37;06 Largest ammo burn approx. 1.5 million rounds 00;02;40;06 $100K savings for every ton of ammunition destroyed.
