The 'Griffins' of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 79 are deployed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Carrier Strike Group (CSG), currently deployed to the 5th fleet area of operations. Operating the MH-60R Seahawk, the 'Griffins' carry out various missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, vertical replenishment, search and rescue, humanitarian relief and medical evacuation operations. The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility in order to defend American forces and interests in the region. With Abraham Lincoln as the flagship, deployed strike group assets include staffs, ships and aircraft of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 2, and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7.
