Sgt. Mark H. Fuggiti - Pennsylvania National Guard - 2012 Army National Guard Soldier of the Year

SGT Mark H. Fuggiti enlisted into the Pennsylvania Army National Guard on March 23rd, 2010; he shipped to basic combat training at Ft. Jackson, SC on April 12th, 2010 and completed BCT as the Soldier Leader of the Cycle. SGT Fuggiti attended advanced individual training at Ft. Lee, VA where he was duty MOSQ'd as a 92Y, Unit Supply Specialist and awarded the Distinguished Honor Graduate. Due to a high PT score during AIT, SGT Fuggiti was given the opportunity to attend Airborne school, which he completed on October 1st, 2010. SGT Fuggiti was first assigned to the 3622nd Maintenance Co out of Ft. Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. SGT Fuggiti was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania and graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2005 with his Bachelor's of Science degree in Finance.

SGT Fuggiti's military schools include Warrior Leader Course, where he graduated as the Distinguished Honor Graduate, R&R BN's Fast Start Training where he graduated as the Honor Graduate and Recruiting and Retention Basic Course. Other accomplishments include the 2010 Pennsylvania Best Warrior Competition runner-up and 2011 Region 2 Best Warrior Competition winner.

When he is not working his recruiting duties, SGT Fuggiti spends time volunteering for Veteran's appreciation events and at county fairs to bring civilian awareness to the Army National Guard.

SGT Fuggiti's military awards include: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal x 5, National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Pennsylvania Service Ribbon, PA General Thomas J Stewart Medal, Army Parachutist Badge, Basic Recruiting and Retention Badge, and Expert Rifle Qualification Badge.

 

Sgt. Sgt. Matthew S. Howard - Arkansas National Guard - 2012 Army National Guard Noncommissioned Officer ofthe Year

SGT Howard is a member of Charlie Battery 2nd Battalion 142nd Fires Brigade stationed out of Ozark AR. He was born on Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Following his father's retirement from the Air Force his family moved to Clarksville AR, where he graduated High School in 1993. SGT Howard enlisted in the Arkansas National Guard in November of 1994 and attended One Station Unit Training at Ft. Sill OK, where he received the 13B MOS.

SGT Howard's first mobilization was in support of Operation Noble Eagle from Sep 2002 through Jul 2003. The unit served as a security force for Ft. Polk LA. SGT Howard was selected along with three other members of his unit to serve on the PSD team for the Ft. Polk commanding general. SGT Howard's next mobilization was in conjunction with Operation Iraqi Freedom from Nov of 2006 through Feb of 2008. The unit was stationed in Camp Adder Iraq and assigned the task of convoy security, moving fuel and other essential items throughout Iraq. SGT Howard served as an assistant convoy commander during this time, receiving the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge while serving in Iraq.

SGT Howard is an active member of Second Baptist church, serving as a Deacon and helping with the children's department. SGT Howard is also a member of the men's group for his church, setting up several activities during the year. SGT Howard also assists with the Baptist Association helping to plan the annual church camp and helping with the regular business of the Association. SGT Howard has participated in several mission trips in the U.S. and Mexico.

SGT Howard's awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserves Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve w/M device, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Arkansas Distinguished Service Medal, Arkansas Federal Service Ribbon, Arkansas Emergency Service Ribbon, Arkansas Service Ribbon, Nebraska Commendation Medal, Combat Action Badge and Air Assault Badge. SGT Howard has also been inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
