Dr. Matt Hepburn, Operation Warp Speed's Vaccine Development Lead discusses the clinical trial process and how Operation Warp Speed is able to follow the standard process and still deliver a COVID-19 vaccine on an accelerated timeline.

ALTHOUGH OPERATION WARP SPEED, THE EFFORT TO DEVELOP AND DISTRIBUTE A COVID-19 VACCINE, IS MOVING AT A FASTER-THAN-USUAL PACE – IT’S FOLLOWING THE SAME TESTING PROCESS SET FORTH BY THE FDA.

DR. HEPBURN SAYS OPERATION WARP SPEED SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASED THE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE STUDIES, SO THEY WILL UNDERSTAND THE SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF A VACCINE SOONER. SOME STUDY PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE AN ACTUAL VACCINE CANDIDATE, WHILE OTHERS GET A PLACEBO INJECTION.
