Milwaukee. Germany - A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon, with the Colorado Air National Guard’s 140th Wing, flies away after receiving fuel from a KC-135 Stratotanker, with the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 128th Air Refueling Wing, during exercise Air Defender 2023. According to senior leaders, the German-led, multinational exercise reaffirmed NATO’s defensive capabilities and was the largest one since the alliance was founded. “Moving 100 aircraft over the ocean in a matter of four flying days is a monumental feat,” said Air Force Maj. Brandyn Dietman, with the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 128th ARW, which was one of several units providing an “air bridge” to Germany where the exercise mostly took place.
