Columbia, South Carolina - U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston, Jr., the adjutant general for South Carolina, looks over memorabilia and plaques in his office at the South Carolina Military Department headquarters in Columbia, South Carolina, Jan. 24, 2019. Livingston will retire in March 2019 after more than 40 years of military service and is the last popularly elected adjutant general in the nation.
