Army Staff Sgt. Brian Garr, a Task Force 110 liaison officer for Andrew Co., records a description and the location of sand boils found near a levee south of Amazonia, Mo., on June 14, 2011. Sand boils occur when water under pressure pushes up through the ground and appears to “boil" up. Sand boils can be a mechanism contributing to a levee failure during floods. These sand boils were determined to not be harmful to the levee at this time. Task Force 110 will continue to monitor these sand boils, along with other key sites as preparations for potential flooding continue in Andrew Co.
