Army Pvt. Albert D.J. Cashier enlisted in the Illinois militia August 3, 1862 at age 19. After being hit by a car in 1911 a doctor discovered he was a woman by the name of Jennie Hodgers. As a Soldier, Cashier frequently went above the call of duty serving in the 95th Illinois Regiment, a unit that saw much combat, including the battle at Vicksburg.
