It is customary for Oregon units to fly the state flag above their Forward Operating Base in their deployed location, and as a tradition, Kulongoski presents the state flag to the unit commander at their mobilization ceremony.  More than 600 Oregon Guard Members will join Soldiers from Idaho and Montana for a one-year deployment to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn.
