Tech. Sgt. Kevin Call waits to marshal an LC-130 Hercules from the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing to a parking spot on the annual sea ice runway Nov. 26, 2007 near McMurdo Station, Antarctica, during Operation Deep Freeze. The 109th AW recently wrapped up its 27th season of flying the ski-equipped LC-130 in support of the operation, which provides military logistics support to the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Program. The wing is the only unit in the U.S. military equipped with the LC-130 “Skibirds.”
