Lt. Col. Thomas Fennell climbs aboard an A-10 Thunderbolt II prior to a mission at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Sept. 12. Colonel Fennell is finishing up what will most likely be his last combat deployment with the A-10. As part of the 111th Fighter Wing, a Pennsylvania Air National Guard unit, the 103rd FS is scheduled to lose its aircraft in the spring of 2009. Colonel Fennell is a pilot with the 103rd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron.
