Commander, New York Army National Guard

Brigadier General Michael Van Patten assumed duties as the Commander of, the New York Army National Guard on December 1, 1998. As Commander, he provides command and control to all forces within the New York Army National Guard with responsibility for manning, training and maintaining those forces. Ensures mobilization entities meet readiness standards for deployment and, or for support of state missions.

The General's military service began in 1965. He was commissioned an ordnance officer following Officer Candidate School in 1968. Prior to his current assignment, Brigadier General Van Patten served as Commander, 42d DISCOM, New York Army National Guard, Director, Command Initiatives Group, and most recently Commander of the 53rd Trp Cmd.
