Major General Shanna M. Woyak

Maj. Gen. Shanna M. Woyak currently serves as the Director of the Small Market and Stand Alone Medical Treatment Facility Organization (SSO) for the Defense Health Agency. She oversees all executive management, clinical operations, business operations, and strategy for 17 Small Markets and over 100 MTFs and DTFs across the United States, accounting for greater than one-quarter of the health care encounters within the Military Health System’s direct-care system.

General Woyak received a direct commission as an Air Force Clinical Nurse in February 1995. She began her military career in July 1986 serving in multiple patient care roles including obstetrics, operating room, emergency medicine, air transportable hospitals, and a flying ambulance surgical trauma team. Previous to this assignment, she served as the Director, National Capital Region (NCR) Medical Directorate and Director, transitional Intermediate Management Organization (tIMO) for the Defense Health Agency (DHA). She oversaw and managed all healthcare delivery for 30 Joint facilities, with 680,000 active duty members and beneficiaries, spanning seven states. As the Director, General Woyak’s main priority was to maximize the medical readiness of the operational and medical forces. In addition, she had a dual role as the Air National Guard Assistant to the Chief of the Nurse Corps, Office of the Surgeon General, Defense Health Headquarters, Falls Church, Virginia. In this capacity, she assisted the Chief Nurse of the Air Force in developing and executing plans, policies, and standards for Air National Guard assigned nurses.
