BRIGADIER GENERAL BRIAN D. WINTER

Brigadier General Brian Winter assumed duties as Deputy Commander, 42d Infantry Division, New York Army National Guard on January 2, 1999. As Deputy Commander, he is responsible for fighting the rear battle to include: the overall control and coordination of Support activities for a heavy division to include integration of DISCOM efforts, addressing all areas of maintenance, medical, transportation and all classes of supply, and providing C2 for all units operating in the Division Rear.

The General began his service in the Active Army in 1969. He was selected for Officer Candidate School while an enlisted soldier on active duty. He was commissioned as a field artillery officer following Officer Candidate School in 1970. He qualified for the Jungle Operations Training Course and further assignment to Vietnam with the XXIV Corp Artillery. Prior to his current assignment, Brigadier General Winter served as Deputy Commander, 42d Infantry Division, New York Army National Guard and most recently as Commander, 27th Infantry Brigade, New York Army National Guard. In that capacity, General Winter was responsible for command and control of an Enhanced Infantry Brigade by assigning missions, allocating resources and means, establishing goals and objectives and providing leadership and guidance to ensure the success of the Brigade in combat.
