Deputy Commander, 34th Infantry Division

Brigadier General Paul Wieck assumed duties as Deputy Commander, 34th Infantry Division on 24 October 1998. As Deputy Commander, he is responsible for all matters pertaining to support of the Division, and for the training and readiness of Iowa's units assigned to the Division.

The General's active military service began when he was commissioned in the Regular Army from ROTC in 1973. He qualified and served in Air Defense Artillery, Ordnance and Field Artillery duty positions during six years of active duty, including assignments in the Southern European Task Force in Italy and III Corps Artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Prior to his current assignment Brigadier General Wieck served as Special Projects Officer and most recently as Assistant Adjutant General, Iowa Army National Guard. In that capacity, General Wieck was responsible for the mobilization and readiness of the Iowa Army National Guard.

General Wieck served as Commissioner, Iowa Department of Public Safety, a cabinet-level position in the Iowa State government from 1990 to 1999.
