Brigadier General Matthew J. Whittington is the Assistant Adjutant General - Joint, Joint Task Force Commander for the Arizona National Guard and as such his role is to provide tasked military support from the National Guard to civil authorities in Arizona. He assures that contingency planning is accomplished, that preparatory exercises are held and that emergency operational missions are successfully accomplished in support of local, state and federal authorities.

Brigadier General Whittington previously served in a variety of command and staff positions in the Arizona Army National Guard. On prior active duty tours with the United States Army, he served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; in the Republic of Korea; in Italy; and in Germany.
