BRIGADIER GENERAL JIMMY G. WELCH

Brigadier General Jimmy G. Welch is the Assistant Adjutant General, Army, Tennessee National Guard. He is responsible for the training and supervision of more than 10,500 soldiers in the Tennessee Army National Guard.
Prior to his assignment as the Assistant Adjutant General, Brigadier General Welch served as the 194th Engineer Brigade Commander. While serving in this position the 194th Engineer Brigade deployed to Iraq. Under his command, the Brigade was able to integrate mobility, survivability and general engineering in support of the XVIII Airborne Corps and the Multinational Corp-Iraq (MNC-I) commander's intent. The cornerstone of the brigade's contribution during this deployment was the command and control of general support engineer forces and route clearance operations in Southern and Western Iraq. His command supported two multi-national divisions, along with MND-Baghdad, and the Marine Expeditionary Force.
Brigadier General Welch's active duty military service began in 1968 when he enlisted in the Army. He was commissioned in 1969 as a Quartermaster Officer upon completion of the Engineer Officer Candidate School. Brigadier General Welch was discharged from active duty in 1971 after serving a tour in Vietnam. He was appointed in the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1974 and has served in various staff and leadership assignments.
