Brigadier General George S. Walker was appointed the Adjutant General, Mississippi National Guard, in February 2000. Prior to his appointment as Adjutant General, he served as Assistant Adjutant General for the Mississippi Army National Guard and Commanding General, 184th Transportation Brigade. As Adjutant General, he serves as a member of the Governor's Cabinet and commander of the military department of Mississippi, which includes the Army National Guard, Air National Guard and the Mississippi State Guard. The Adjutant General is charged with the responsibility to organize, train and equip the more than 13,000 citizen soldiers and airmen of the Mississippi National Guard to perform its federal and state missions. His duties include administration and management of personnel, fiscal and legislative matters pertaining to the military department and maintaining the readiness of the force.

General Walker's military career began in February 1959, when he enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard's Troop Headquarters, 3rd Squadron, 108th Armored Cavalry. He was commissioned an armor officer following Federal Officer Candidate School. Prior to his current assignments, General Walker served as commander of the 185th Aviation Group. Following graduation from pilot training in 1965, General Walker was called to active duty service with the U.S. Army, serving as an aviator with the 185th Aviation Company in Vietnam. He remained on active duty until June 1972.
