Neighbor states assist Cal Guard with MAFFS missions
California National Guard Primary
Sept. 4, 2020 | 4:40
Video interviews of Nevada and Wyoming Air National Guard teams, an a Colorado Air Force Reserve unit, supporting Northern California wildfires by dropping fire retardant aboard a C-130 aircraft.
INTERVIEWS: U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Matthew Brazell, 302nd Airlift Wing, Colorado Air Force Reserve;
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Garrett Keen, 152nd Airlift Wing, Nevada Air National Guard;
U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Jeremy Burton, 153rd Airlift Wing, Wyoming Air National Guard;
Kim A. Christensen, Deputy Director, Fire Operations, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service;
SUBJECT: For more than two weeks, Modular Airborne Firefighting System (MAFFS) teams from the Wyoming and Nevada Air National Guards — and from the Colorado Air Force Reserve — have assisted the California Air National Guard during California’s worst fire season in history by dropping millions of gallons of fire retardant throughout Northern California wildfires. All organizations are assisting the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Division. CAL FIRE air tankers and National Guard C-130s have reportedly dropped nearly five million gallons of retardant, and nearly six million gallons of water, just in the latest surge of fire containment. The California National Guard thanks its neighbors for their incredible assistance. (U.S. Army National Guard video by Staff Sgt. Eddie Siguenza)
