Airman from the 644th Combat Communications squadron recently completed Exercise Dragon Forge 18-1 here on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.

Dragon forge is a readiness exercise designed to teach, train and build the combat skills of the 644 CBCS Airmen.

“During the exercise, we faced many unique training scenarios,” said Capt. Kira Gonzalez, 644 CBCS flight commander. “We met our training objectives through events such as hand-to-hand combat, Joint Casualty Evacuation training, foot and vehicle navigation and tactics training.”

The Joint CASEVAC training allowed the Combat Comm Airmen to practice calling in 9-line requests and taught valuable skills such as how to properly approach and prepare a helicopter landing zone.

"The training was extremely valuable to our team," said 1st Lt. Costin Wolt, 644 CBCS Officer in Charge of current and future operations. "Our unit has members who are Air-Assault qualified and young Airmen who are getting up close to a helicopter for the first time. Everyone learns something from this kind of exercise.”

The exercise is designed in a way to gradually build along a natural progression timeline with the intensity of the scenarios increasing as the 2 week long exercise progressed. This allowed for rapid development and growth of the Airmen so they will be better prepared to build and defend a communication site if called upon.

The goal of Exercise Dragon Forge is to meet the Combat Communications mission of rapidly deploying combat ready Airmen and communications in support of Pacific Theatre contingencies.
