Defense Secretary Ash Carter has opened up all military occupations to women, but in 2012, Capt. Tara Robertson recently took command of the Minnesota National Guard's 849th Mobility Augmentation Company. She was the first woman to command the previously all-male unit. She was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for her service in Afghanistan.
