Sgt. Benjamin Fernandez, a combat medic with 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment, 81st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, describes his motivation to participate in the Light Leaders Course held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, 8-23 March, 2021. The Light Leaders Course trains soldiers to become more proficient Infantry leaders by developing the fundamentals of squad operations and building their leadership abilities. During the training, leaders lead their teams in infantry tactical movements, land navigation, tactical planning, battle drills, patrolling, and squad field training exercises.
