235th Military Police Company directs traffic as residents visit threatened homes

By Army Spc. Andrew Turner 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment

DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. - Soldiers from the South Dakota National Guard assisted with traffic control and tracking everyone who enters Dakota Dunes area today.

Members of the 235th Military Police Company from Sioux Falls and Rapid City, directed traffic and checked entry ID cards and valid photo identification as residents were allowed back into their homes after evacuating the area in response of the flooding Missouri River.

“We’ve got patrols up and down the streets checking IDs making sure they are the right residents,” said Army Sgt. Adam Palmiotto, a team leader in the 235th, Sioux Falls. “Only residents who live in the evacuated houses and authorized personnel are allowed to enter the area.”

Residents are required to have proper paperwork and identification to be able to enter the area, said Palmiotto. Access is scheduled between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the next five days but can be interrupted due to changing situations at the levee.
