Pre-enlistment Course Helps Turn Recruits into Soldiers

The U.S. Army started a Future Soldier Preparatory Course program at Fort Jackson, S.C., to help America’s youth overcome academic and physical fitness barriers to service so they can earn the opportunity to join the Army. Since the inception of the three-week course in early August , the National Guard has referred over 500 potential recruits to the pre-enlistment program, with 301 on standby.

More than 43,000 people enlisted in the Army National Guard in fiscal year 2020. That, combined with a 101% retention rate and more than 4,100 transitions from the active component to the Army Guard, allowed the Army Guard to meet its congressionally mandated end strength of 336,000 Soldiers.
