Major
General Fred R. Sloan is the Air National Guard assistant to the commander of
Air Combat Command (COMACC) and also serves as the director of Air National
Guard Forces, Headquarters, Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va.
As the assistant to the commander he is responsible for advising the commander
and his staff on all issues impacting the Air National Guard and provides administrative
oversight of assigned Air National Guard personnel. He ensures requirements
and coordination for Air Combat Command gained Air National Guard units are
included in the planning, programming, and execution phases of the Air Combat
Command mission elements.
The general began his military career by enlisting in the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1971. He was commissioned that same year after graduating from the inaugural Air National Guard Officer Preparatory Academy and proceeded to Laughlin Air Force Base for undergraduate pilot training. He has served in a variety of operational, staff, and command positions, including wing commander. He is a command pilot with over 6,000 flying hours.

Major General Sloan is the assistant adjutant general - Air for the State of Wisconsin. He is responsible to the adjutant general for directing Air National Guard operations and establishing policy to ensure mission readiness of an air refueling wing, fighter wing, air control squadron, and a combat readiness training center. He is also responsible for coordination, implementation, and compliance with Air Force and National Guard Bureau policies within the state.
